The first and second graders worked collaboratively today when they studied the effects of rainfall on the land during their science experiment.

Congratulations to Josie, Sam, Abby, Ashley, and Charlie. These students were our weekly "Marvelous Mustang" winners! Way to go, Mustangs! Keep up the awesome behavior! ☺️

We ended our week in worship with our first student mass of the school year! The students who led choir, Altar served, brought up the gifts, performed the readings, and read the prayer petitions did a wonderful job. Most Rev. Albert George Alexander, Bishop of the Diocese of Kuzhithurai, Tamil Nadu, India was our special guest and Father Christopher’s Bishop from his hometown in India. It was a wonderful celebration of the feast day of Guardian Angels. At the end of mass, Mrs. Moir and the students surprised Father Christopher and the Bishop by singing Father Christopher’s favorite song, “Un Thiru Yazhil”, which is in Father Christopher and the Bishop’s native dialect. It was a wonderful mass and a blessing to us all!

Carly and Addie led morning prayer this morning by teaching us the significance behind the three silent tracings of the cross before the Gospel reading. For example, we cross our forehead so the Word of God enters our thoughts, purifies our mind, and helps us understand the Truth. We cross our lips so our speech becomes holy and we feel ready to proclaim and share the Gospel with others. We cross our hearts to invite God in, deepen our love for Him and our neighbors, and let His teachings guide our actions. ✝️

Mrs. Nicklous and the leadership team shared how we, as a student body, will be focusing on "MARVELOUS MUSTANG MOMENTS" during the month of October. The goal is to acknowledge and celebrate exemplary actions shown by the students.  Teachers, staff, and the leadership team will look for actions such as, but certainly not limited to, exhibiting our virtue of the month (generosity), active listening, showing respect to other students and our school building, taking initiative and above all showing kindness! On Monday afternoons, our leadership team will be drawing the names of 6 students who have demonstrated their marvelous moments. We look forward to seeing MARVELOUS MUSTANGS!!!

The kindergarten class learned about Johnny Appleseed this afternoon and had fun making hats! 🍎

The middle school students in Mrs. Phillip's "Culinary Arts" elective enjoyed making fried rice this afternoon! They really enjoyed eating it too! 😉

This afternoon, the 1st & 2nd grade class enjoyed France culture day. The students learned about French impressionists and worked on watercolor paintings inspired by Edgar Degas and pointillism art inspired by George Seurat. They also shared a French picnic with Macarons while playing bingo on cards with images from France. It was an exciting afternoon learning about French culture! 🇫🇷

The SPPS “Worship Wednesday” song has become a weekly highlight among the students, staff, and teachers! We all look forward to it each week! Thank you to Mrs. Moir and Callen for leading us this afternoon! A special thanks to Mrs. Moir who always finds ways to highlight different students and their talents! 🎶🎹

The SPPS students kicked off the year with their first REAL Family activity today! REAL Families consist of kindergarten through eighth grade students. The older students pair up with younger students and help during school related activities such as today and help during mass. During the activity today, the teachers and students discussed the School Wide Learning Expectations (SLEs) and created posters to demonstrate how to be “Responsible Citizens”, “Effective Communicators”, “Active Christians”, and “Life Long Learners”. The groups will share during morning prayer next week! Way to go, Mustangs! We looking forward to seeing so many students modeling “REAL” behavior this year!

The teachers and staff have been working hard in preparation for the 2026-2027 school year! We are all excited to welcome the students and their families back to school next week! 📚🍎 We would like to welcome our two newest staff members, Brooke Hatch and Jessica Rolfe. Brooke will be teaching science classes for both the 5th/6th and 7th/8th students each afternoon. She just graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Linfield University, and has experience working with students of all ages. Jessica will be teaching 1st grade math, religion, and reading each morning to our first grade students. She obtained her MA in Teaching through Seattle University and has over a decade of experience as a classroom teacher and also working with students who have dyslexia.

Earlier this week, Mrs. Davidson and Mrs. Dummer took the 7th graders on a science field trip. A special thanks to members of the Portland Area Sailplane Society (PASS) for providing the students with an engineering design lesson and flight competition. They had a great time! ✈️

Congratulations to our Pre-K graduates! 🎓 They learned, grew, explored, played, and had so much fun this past year! Thank you to Mrs. Phillips, Mrs. Nicklous, and Ms. Marlie for all their hardwork, dedication, laughter, and for instilling a love for learning in all of the students!
